This is an edible mushroom that resembles a portobello mushroom, but grows from wood chips and can be added as a valuable soil building asset while producing loads of giant mushrooms to eat. Often referred to as “Garden Giants”, these mushrooms from this culture have been known to grow up to a cap size of 12” across and 10”-12” in height! They tend to fruit early summer late spring when the weather warms up after a good rain. They prefer hardwood chips and material and enjoy a white pine needle casing layer on top of the patch. The white pine needle thatch will help keep hungry slugs away from you mushrooms as well.
